Grammer said he had longed to perform in a musical on Broadway having played Henry Higgins in a production of My Fair Lady in 2007. La Cage aux Folles is based on a 1973 French play. Hollywood starsIn the 1980s, an adaptation of the 1978 film version of the play ran for four years on Broadway and won six Tony awards.
Grammer played Dr Frasier Crane in Frasier for 11 series - before that he played the same role in Cheers. His TV comedy Hank - which he produced and starred in - was cancelled last month after less than one series due to poor reviews and low ratings.
Several Hollywood stars are acting on Broadway at the moment - James Bond star Daniel Craig and Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman are starring in the play A Steady Rain.
James Gandolfini, of Sopranos fame, starred in God of Carnage earlier this year.
